Areas we serve
Outpatient Mental Health Care near La Jolla and UTC
For adults 18 and older. Our office is in Sorrento Valley, just north of University City. Call (858) 567-4246.
Under three miles from UTC
We have one office, at 11230 Sorrento Valley Road, Suite 225. There is no La Jolla location and no UTC location — but University City is under three miles away and La Jolla village about five. Straight-line, measured from our door; the drive is longer and depends on the hour.
From UTC it is the 805 north or Genesee Avenue; from La Jolla it is the 5 north a few exits. Either way you are heading away from the morning traffic rather than into it, which is worth something at 8:45.
Our Intensive Outpatient Program runs Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
The schedule
Whether mornings work, honestly
This part of the county keeps unusual hours. A 9:00-to-12:00 program fits some of them well and others badly, and it is better to know which before you start.
-
It fits an afternoon-weighted day
If your work runs long into the evening — research, clinical shifts that start at midday, anything with a flexible morning — three mornings a week is a schedule you can actually keep.
-
It fits students over 18
A morning block around classes is more workable than most outpatient schedules. We work with adults 18 and older only, and we are not affiliated with any university or health system.
-
It does not fit everyone
If your mornings are fixed — rounds, lab starts, a hard 8:00 — then it does not, and we will say so rather than sign you up for something you will miss. There are no evening or weekend groups at the moment.
-
There is another way in
When the program does not fit the diary, individual therapy and medication management schedule separately and stand on their own.
What you would be coming for
Three services for adults 18 and older, built to work together rather than in parallel:
- Intensive Outpatient Program — clinician-led groups three mornings a week, with a weekly individual session included.
- Medication management — psychiatric evaluation and regular follow-up, with your prescriber on the same team as your therapist.
- Individual therapy — a private hour with your own clinician.
We work with anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, adjustment disorder, bipolar disorder and life transitions.
We do not provide substance use treatment, detox, eating disorder treatment, or residential and inpatient care, and we do not offer couples, family or child therapy. Where that is what is needed, we will provide appropriate referrals.
If you are in crisis, do not wait for an appointment.
Call or text 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, available 24 hours a day. In San Diego County the Access & Crisis Line on (888) 724-7240 is also staffed around the clock. If there is immediate danger to life, call 911. Strata Outpatient is a scheduled outpatient clinic — not an emergency service, a crisis line, or a 24/7 provider.
Questions
Getting here from La Jolla and UTC
Do you have an office in La Jolla or UTC?
No. We have one office, at 11230 Sorrento Valley Road, Suite 225, San Diego, CA 92121. Everything happens there.
Are you connected to UC San Diego?
No. We are an independent practice and have no affiliation with the university or its health system. We mention University City because it is where a lot of the people who come to us live and work, and because it is under three miles away.
Can I get there without a car?
Possibly, but check before you rely on it. The Coaster's Sorrento Valley station is on the same road, and NCTD runs weekday COASTER Connection shuttles into the surrounding business parks — including routes toward University City and La Jolla. They are built around commuter peaks, though, so a program finishing at noon may fall outside them. Current times are at gonctd.com or in the PRONTO app.
Is there parking?
Yes — free parking on site. Full directions and how to find Suite 225 are on our contact page.
Do you take my insurance?
We verify your benefits during admissions, before your start date is set, and then walk you through what your plan covers, what it does not, and what your out-of-pocket costs look like. Start with our insurance verification form, or call us.
