Strata Outpatient treats adults seeking mental health care. People arrive at our door from every background and in every kind of circumstance, and we think the least they should be able to count on is being met without judgment. This page says what that means in practice and how to hold us to it.
We do not discriminate
We provide care, and we admit, schedule, and treat people, without discriminating on the basis of race, color, national origin, ancestry, citizenship or immigration status, primary language, religion, age, sex, gender, gender identity or gender expression, sexual orientation, marital or family status, pregnancy, medical condition, genetic information, disability, military or veteran status, or source of payment.
This applies to every part of how we operate: who we accept, how quickly we see you, which clinician you are assigned, how you are spoken to by anyone on our staff, and how a complaint from you is handled.
It also applies to our staff. We do not discriminate in hiring or employment on any of the bases above.
Being transgender or non-binary is not a barrier to care here. We say so explicitly because people ask, and because being turned away is a common enough experience that the question is a fair one. California law protects gender identity and expression, and our own practice is to use the name and pronouns you give us.
Communication and language
If you are deaf or hard of hearing, blind or have low vision, or have any other disability that affects how you communicate with us, we provide what you need and we pay for it. That might be a qualified sign language interpreter, written materials in large print, documents sent electronically so your own software can read them, extra time, or something we have not thought of. We will not ask you to bring your own interpreter, and the cost will never appear on your bill. Tell us what works for you when you schedule, and if what you need is unusual, ask anyway — we would rather arrange it than have you go without.
If English is not the language you are most comfortable in, tell us when you call. If you are using insurance, your health plan is required to provide a qualified interpreter at no charge to you, and we will arrange it through them. If you are paying for care yourself, tell us what you need and we will work with you to arrange it.
Either way, please do not feel you have to bring a family member or a friend to interpret for you, and particularly not a child. You are entitled to an interpreter who is not someone you know.
Our office
Our office at 11230 Sorrento Valley Road, Suite 225 is wheelchair accessible, with accessible parking and step-free access from the parking area to the suite.
If you need something specific in order to attend — a particular room, help getting from the parking area to the suite, a service animal with you, a quieter space to wait in, a companion present, or an appointment at a time of day that works better for you — call us before your visit and we will arrange it. Asking in advance only means we can have it ready; it is not a condition of being accommodated.
This website
We build this site so that it works for people using assistive technology, and we treat an access problem as a bug rather than a feature request. As it stands, the site:
- can be navigated entirely by keyboard, with a visible focus indicator showing where you are and a skip link to jump straight to the main content;
- uses proper headings, landmarks, and labels, so a screen reader can announce the structure of a page and move through it by section;
- gives every image a text alternative;
- honors your system setting for reduced motion, so animations do not play if you have asked your device to stop them; and
- declares its language, so a screen reader pronounces it correctly.
We are working toward conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. We are deliberately not claiming to have reached it, because we have not had the site formally audited and we would rather tell you where we actually stand.
Two parts of the site are built by other companies — our forms, which are hosted by Jotform, and our patient portal, which runs on Kipu. We chose both, so if either one is the part that does not work for you, we still want to hear it, and in the meantime anything either of them does can also be done over the phone.
If something is not accessible, or you were treated unfairly
Tell us, and we will look into it. You can reach us at (858) 567-4246 or contact@strataoutpatient.com, or write to the address below. If you are reporting a problem with this website, it helps to know which page you were on and what you were using to read it, but tell us even if you do not have those details.
You will not be treated differently for raising something. Asking for an accommodation, or complaining about how you were treated, has no effect on your care with us.
If you would rather raise it with someone outside the practice, or you are not satisfied with how we handled it, you can contact the California Civil Rights Department at calcivilrights.ca.gov, or the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division at civilrights.justice.gov. Complaints about the privacy of your health information go through our Notice of Privacy Practices, which has its own process.
